Name Gina D'EmilioAbout ARTIST STATEMENT In most of my work, I confront women’s issues by using art as the main medium, representing the female body as the subject and not just an object. I strive to establish genuine female subjectivity, for the representation of female sexuality is still beyond a conventional notion in art. I am currently practicing many different techniques and art forms. To the viewer it may look like I am just dabbling, but to me it is growth. What I create is for me and for me alone. Nevertheless, presenting my artwork to the public provides an opportunity for my viewers to ‘look at me’ in my artwork and see a little piece of them too. Whether my artwork is public or personal, the impression of self-expression is upon it all. When I make art, I strive to include myself emotionally within the piece to help develop a strong inner feeling about what I am pursuing. I both love my life and seek to escape it at the same time. I seek to release myself into something larger and more inclusive. Art helps me do just that. I am at the beginning of my life and I am hopeful that my inner feelings will put me on multiple paths as I grow older. One day, I hope to reach the moment where everything up until then was merely practice for what is really the point of my having any talent at all. Until that day comes, art as a means of expression is reason enough for doing what I do. CV OBJECTIVE To obtain a position in the field of art education to complement my academic program.
